The 1950’s brought many Katie’s and Kathy’s into the world.  Katherine is a classic name, Greek in origin, meaning “pure”. I love many international variations of Katherine.

A memorable name fitting for the iconic performer. The meaning of the name Elvis is unknown, possibly coming from the Norse name”Alvis”. I’ve noticed the name Presley pop up quite a bit recently on name forums and blogs.

What a name! Nikolina is such a cool alternative or way to honor a Nicole.  Most popular in Croatia, Nikolina is a form of Nicholas, and definitely worthy of a Princess!

Rod has a cool, rockstar sound.  I’d love to see the name Roderick used more.  A German name, meaning “famous ruler”, less than 200 boys were given the name Roderick last year in the U.S.

Cody is an English name that may mean “pillow” or “helpful”.  I think the next generation of Cody’s will actually be Dakota or Takoda’s using Cody as a nickname.

Griffith sure makes for a cool middle name! Jack began as a nickname for John, meaning “God is gracious”.  Jack works on it’s own as a given name, and is quite popular at #40 in the U.S.

It probably doesn’t surprise you that I love the surname Bloom! Perfect for a flower lover! Orlando is an Italian variation of the name Roland, meaning “famous throughout the land”.

An Italian and romantic form of Frances, Francesca means, “from France, or free man”.  I always thought Francesca had a grand, regal sound.  Nicknames like Frankie, Francie, or Franny give this name a spunky edge.

I’m always curious about actors who use stage names and how their name was selected.  Dove is definitely a sweet and memorable name often associated with peace.

Aaliyah is a spelling variation of an Arabic name, meaning “highborn”.  At #36 in the U.S. this name is always more popular than I expect it to be.

Zooey was named after a male character in J.D. Salinger’s Franny and Zooey. Zoey or Zoe is a popular Greek name, meaning “life”.

I love the names Cary and Grant.  Archibald is a name that has dwindled in popularity since Grant’s birth.  I see many name nerds mentioning this grand Teutonic name.  Archibald means “truly brave”, such a wonderful meaning!

The perfect name for this distinctive musician. Dolly is a diminutive of the name Dorothy, meaning “gift of God”. Rebecca Romijn is such a fan of Parton that she named one of her twin girls Dolly Rebecca Rose. I have to mention that Romijn’s other daughter is Charlie Tamara Tulip, because not only are twin names fascinating, but the use of Tulip excites me!

Bonnie is a sweet little Scottish name, meaning “beautiful”.  I’d love to see the name Bonnie comeback into fashion.  Bonnie would fit right in with sweet vintage girls names that have been climbing the charts.

Toby is a diminutive of the name Tobias, meaning “God is good”.  I love the idea of Toby as a nickname for Tobin. It could also work as a nickname for Tobiah.

I don’t know what’s more interesting, the name Rosetta, or seeing Piper on a woman in 80’s! Rosetta is a rarley used Persian name meaning “splendid”.  It’s also used as a nickname for Rosa. Piper is a rising occupational name meaning “pipe or flute player”.

A beautiful actress with a very cool name! Mariska is a Hungarian name that comes from Maris.  I love the meaning of Mariska, “of the sea”.

Neil is an Irish name, meaning “cloud”.  There are many notable men with the name Neil, a few of which include Neil Young, Neil Armstrong, and Neil Patrick Harris.

Calum, more commonly spelled Callum in the U.S., is a great Scottish name, meaning “dove”. A great, underused name that lends itself to the nickname “Cal”.

An English variation of Helen, Ellen has the lovely meaning “bright, shinning one”.  Now that a generation of Ellen’s are becoming grandmother’s, I could definitely see this name rise again in popularity.  It also lends it’s to the popular nickname, “Ellie”.

So many fascinating names to pour over! Wolfgang is one of my favorite guilty pleasure names (usable, but too brave for me to personally use). Wolfgang is a powerful German name, meaning “traveling wolf”.

At #11 in popularity, Elijah is definitely a popular name right now in the U.S. Hebrew meaning “Jehovah increases”, I definitely see the appeal of this vowel-rich Biblical name.  A similar name that’s on my favorites list is Elias.

January 29th – Oprah Winfrey
Oprah Gail Winfrey – Actor, Author, Host, born in the United States on January 29, 1954.
Oprah was actually named for the Biblical character “Orpah”, but her name was misspelled on her birth certificate and the mistake stuck. Orpah is a Hebrew name, meaning “fawn”.  It’s hard to imagine Oprah with any other name.

Still quite readily used, Vanessa is currently #150 in popularity in the U.S.  Vanessa is a literary name created by author Jonathan Swift. I love that Vanessa is also the name of a species of butterfly.

Nolan is a cool Irish name, meaning “champion”.  Great meaning for an athlete! Nolan is currently on the rise in the U.S. and could work as an alternative to the more popular name, Noah.
