Idris has both Arabic roots, meaning interpreter, and Welsh roots, meaning ardent lord. Actor Idris Elba was actually born Idrissa Akuna Elba. Idris has never been in the U.S. top 1,000.
Tuesday, June 16th – Cadence & Maxwell
Cadence is a word name meaning a rhythm, flow, or beat. Cadence entered the U.S. top 1,000 in 2002, and is currently #335 in popularity. Cadence has been the name of characters in many books and films, including the novel We Were Liars, and the show Nashville.
Maxwell is a Scottish surname meaning Mack’s stream. Maxwell has been in the U.S. top 1,000 since 1900, currently at #107 in popularity. There are numerous notable people bearing this name. I love the tie to The Beatles song Maxwell Silver Hammer.
Wednesday, June 17th – Eloise & Jonah
Eloise is derived from the name Heloise, meaning healthy and wide. Eloise is the name of a spunky girl in the children’s book series by Kay Thompson. Currently #300 for girls, Eloise hasn’t been this popular in the U.S. since 1946.
Jonah is a Hebrew name meaning dove. Jonah may mean dove, though it’s often associated with the Old Testament man who was swallowed by a whale. Jonah is currently #138 in popularity.
Thursday, June 18th – Paisley & Ford
Paisley is both a Scottish surname meaning church and a fabric pattern. Paisley is currently #53 in the U.S., the highest it has ever been in popularity – nearly twice as popular as it was in 2012!
Ford is an Old English surname meaning one who dwells near the Ford. It is the surname of legendary American inventor, Henry Ford. Currently #883 in popularity, Ford peaked in 1900.
Friday, June 19th – Kendra & Otis
Kendra is an English name meaning knowledge. Kendra was the name of Albus Dumbledore’s mother in the Harry Potter Series. Most popular in 1987, Kendra is currently #259 for girls in the U.S.
Otis has Old German and Old English roots meaning wealthy. The Adventures of Milo and Otis chronicles Milo, a yellow cat, and Otis, a lovable pug. Otis has not been in the U.S. top 1,000 since 1994.
Saturday, June 20th – Bianca & Eli
Bianca is an Italian name meaning white. Bianca is one of the main characters in Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. Bianca is declining in popularity, currently #360 for girls in the U.S.
Eli is a Hebrew name meaning ascended. Eli is often used as a nickname for names such as Elijah, Elias, and Elliott, though it is a complete name on it’s own. Eli is currently #49 for boys in the U.S.
Sunday, June 21st – Abigail & Arthur
Abigail is a Hebrew name meaning my father is joyful. Quite fitting for a baby girl born on Father’s Day. Currently #8 in popularity, Abigail has been a top 10 name for girls in the U.S. since 2001.
Arthur is a Celtic name meaning bear. The name of a legendary king and one of my beloved family patriarchs, Arthur is currently currently #306 in popularity.
