The Best Celeb Baby Names of 2019 (so far)

Portrait of a cute baby against color backgroun

Who doesn’t love or love to hate a Celeb baby name? Each month I post a Celeb Baby Name recap on my YouTube channel to dish on the names used the previous month. So let’s highlight some of the best names famous folks used for bouncing babes the first half of this year!

Eleanor Louise
Elizabeth Potthast and Andrei Castvet welcomed little Eleanor Louise on January 23, 2019. Could Eleanor Louise be any classier? Two names rich in history come together here. I love how Eleanor Louise sounds very ladylike and proper but lends itself to sweet nicknames like Ellie-Lou.

Winston Roy
Winston is definitely a name to watch! Son of Lily Aldridge and Caleb Followill welcomed little Winston Roy on January 28, 2019. Winston is sure to make many of us think of Winston Churchill. It’s a grounded name while still feeling vintage and hipster. Winston Roy joins older sister Dixie Pearl.

Clara Elise
If I had to describe the combo Clara Elise in just one word it would be “pretty.” Clara Elise is the daughter of Jeremy Jordan and Ashley Spencer born on April 21, 2019. Simple, sweet, extremely usable, and a bit underrated, Clara Elise has a warm feminine ring to it.

Hayes Singleton
Whitney Bischoff and Ricky Angel welcomed their first son, Hayes Singleton on May 4, 2019. There’s something very cowboy-esk and handsome about Hayes in the first name spot. Hayes Singleton feels a little bit country and a little bit sophisticated wit a whole lot of handsome.

Archie Harrison
How could I not include the first child of the of Duke and Duchess of Sussex Harry and Meghan’s little Archie? A name buzzed around the world little Archie Harrison entered the would on May 6, 2019. Admittedly it’s not my favorite, but I do love the nod to Dad in the middle name spot and that the couple veered just enough from tradition.

Ivy Jane
With boys named Spurgeon Elliot and Henry Wilberforce I really wasn’t sure what to expect next from Jessa and Ben Seewald. On May 26, 2019 the Seewald’s welcomed little Ivy Jane. I feel the need to stand and applaud for this sweet name combo. Ivy Jane has a sensible-sweet sound and would sound lovely as a double barrel name.

Ruby Kate
Ruby Kate should be friends with Ivy Jane, both names have similar styles! On June 5th Abby Huntsman and Jeffrey Livingston welcomed twins – Ruby Kate and William Jeffrey. While William Jeffrey is very classic and timeless and I do love that he bears his Dad’s name in the middle, I just love the sweet Ruby paired with the classy middle name Kate. Little Ruby also joins older sister Isabel Grace.

Let me know which names you’ve loved and hated so far this year? Yes, I know Psalm didn’t get a shout out here. You’ll have to check my May 2019 Celeb Baby Names video for my thoughts on the Kardash-a-sibling-set!

Marvelous M Names of June

mjune

June is in bloom and this month we’ll look to celebrities for a beautiful batch of M Names!

Mae
Child star Mae Whitman is all grown up now. The actress, born Mae Margaret Whitman, celebrates her birthday on June 9th. Mae is a simple sweet little diminutive of Margaret meaning pearl. Ranked at 554 in popularity, Mae is one we see more frequently in the middle name spot. Actor Mae West gave this wholesome name a sultry spin.

Mary-Kate
Child star turned fashion designer Mary-Kate Olsen shares her June 13th birthday with twin sister Ashley. Mary-Kate is a double barrel name, two names pronounced together. Mary is a Hebrew name meaning biter and Kate is a Greek name meaning pure, two very different meanings but very timeless names.

Monroe
Film star Marilyn Monroe has become more iconic in her death than in her life. Monroe was born Norma Jean Mortenson on June 1st. Monroe is a unisex Scottish surname meaning mouth of the river roe and currently ranks at Number 603 for girls in the U.S. Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon choose the name Monroe for their little star born in 2001.

Morgan
Actor, director, and legendary voice Morgan Freeman celebrates his birthday on June 1st. A Welsh name meaning sea circle, Morgan took the lead as a girls name through the 80’s and 90’s. Currently Number 744 for boys and 164 for girls, Morgan could be prime for a revival amungst the fellas. Imagine a schoolyard of little male Kelly’s and Morgan’s running around.

Miller
With a name like Wentworth its easy to overlook Miller as a surname. Actor Wentworth Miller was born on June 2nd. Miller is one of those very normal surname names that makes for a more unusual and interesting first name. If the beer association doesn’t both you, you may love Miller in a sea of Connor and Parker’s. Miller is and English occupational name for a grain grinder that currently ranks at Number 871.

Minka Kelly
Actor Minka Kelly, born June 24th, is one of the few people who has such a distinct first name that she could go by it alone – think Beyonce, Whoopi, Adele, Drake, you get where I’m going here. Minka is a Polish name rarely seen in the US that means strong. Less common than Mila or Mika, Minka has a spunky vibe.

Which of these M names delight you?

Easy Breezy Baby Names

ebbn

Psst.. I have a confession to make. I like regular, simple, straight forward names. Names that are easy to say and spell and still have substance. As a name fanatic I’m always on the hunt for new exotic and beautiful names, but today I thought we’d focus on some names that are easy to wear.

Cole
Short and sweet, Cole is a strong name that could be a nickname for Nicholas or stand all on his own. English derived from coal, Cole currently ranks at Number 118. Cole may remind you of the nursery rhyme Old King Cole or the little boys who saw ghosts in the film Sixth Sense.

Eve
The first Biblical name given to a woman, Eve is a strong Hebrew name meaning life. Eve may be just three letters long but she’s still striking and not overly used at Number 442 in popularity. Eve may remind you of the rapper and host of The Talk who bears this name or of the budding actress who climbs her way to the top in the film All About Eve.

Finn
Oh those Irish names how the make me swoon! Finn is derived from the name of an Irish mythological hero, Fionn MacCool, and means white or fair. Finn is on the rise, currently ranked at Number 166. You can also get Finn from numerous longer names like Finley, Finnigan, Finton, Finnick, or Griffin.

Henry
Henry is a name to watch, I predict he’ll be a Top 10 name in the next few years. A German name meaning estate ruler, Henry currently ranks at Number 16 in popularity. Henry is a name well loved by the British monarchy. Recent father Prince Harry’s given name is Henry.

Hope
A lovely virtuous name Hope currently ranks at Number 255 in popularity. Hope fits in with her sister-names Charity, Grace, and Faith, but manages to feel less tied to its Puritanical roots. American soccer player Hope Solo is a bearer of this lovely little name.

Jack
Jack is English in origin but it is definitely a name tied to the image of an All-American-boy. A diminutive of John, meaning God is gracious, Jack currently ranks at Number 28 in popularity. You may hear Jack quite a bit though because Jackson and its many spelling variations, are also quite popular.

Kate
I love how crisp, clean, and classic Kate is. A variant of Katherine, meaning pure, Kate ranks at Number 285 in popularity. You may associate this timeless name with actor Kate Winslet, Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, or the musical Kiss Me Kate.

Lily
Lily is the most popular of the flower names. English in origin, Lily ranks at Number 28 in popularity. A sweet flower and symbol of purity, Lily also works as a nickname to Lillian, Lilia, Lilias, Liliane, Liliana, Lilith, and a slew of other lovely names.

Miles
Miles is a name a boy can really grow into. An English form of Milo, meaning solider of merciful, Miles currently ranks at Number 98. Jazz fans are sure to associate this handsome name with musician Miles Davis.

Nora
Another great Irish name to end our list today! Nora is an Irish form of Honora meaning light and currently ranks at Number 30 in popularity. Nora may remind you of the late talented Nora Ephron or writer Nora Roberts.

Here are ten of my personal favorite simple baby names:

Mid-Popular Baby Names

0middles

If Name nerds had a holiday it would surely be around Mother’s Day each year when the U.S. Social Security Administration releases its annual updated list of the most popular baby names. Check out the video at the end of this video to hear about the most popular names and changes to the list. Today though, let’s look at names smack in the middle of the new Top 1,000.  Names in the middle, or the “sweet spot,” rank between 455 and 555 in popularity and are often familiar without feeling overly done. Here are the mid-popular names of 2018:

445 Alexis Frances
446 Kian Jimena
447 Jamison Kylee
448 Maximilian Leighton
449 Adan Katie
450 Milan Aitana
451 Phillip Kayleigh
452 Albert Sierra
453 Dax Kathryn
454 Mohamed Rosemary
455 Ronin Jolene

Truly an eclectic list!

Many classic contenders like Frances, Phillip, Albert, and Rosemary.

Then we have some names like Kylee, Adan, Kathryn, and Ronin that rank higher in the chars with other spellings.

Alexis tops the mid-popular list on the male side, though originally a male name it has been more popular for girls in recent decades.

Exotic beauties Jimena and Aitana stir up the girls list.

So which names are your mid-popular favorites? I’d choose Maximilian and Rosemary, two timeless choices with sweet natural nicknames Max and Rose.
